Summary

We are looking for a talented Energy and Industry Systems Manager to join Climate Group’s regional office in Beijing.

The role’s primary focus is to work with the Climate Group’s Energy and Industry systems teams at global level and China team on delivering funded projects that will support China’s energy transition towards a net zero future. The successful candidate is expected to play a key role in day-to-day activities led by the China office as part of Climate Group’s global energy and industry projects and initiatives.

The role requires entrepreneurial spirit and creative approaches, and offers significant opportunity for professional development for an ambitious person with a passion for creating a sustainable future.

The role requires fluency in Mandarin and English.

About the role

As part of a small team in CG’s regional China office, the role requires entrepreneurial ambition and creative approaches. The primary focus of the role is to work with the Climate Group’s Energy and Industry systems teams and China team on delivering fundable projects that will support China’s energy transition towards a net zero future. The successful candidate is expected to play a key role in day-to-day activities led by the China office as part of energy and industry projects and initiatives.

This role sits within the China team as part of the Climate Group’s portfolio of Energy and Industry systems, and reports to the China-based Senior Energy and Industry Systems Manager and with a dotted line to China Executive Director.

Working in close collaboration with Climate Group’s China team based in Beijing and the global Systems teams based in the London office, the role is responsible for supporting the overall project management and delivery of key initiatives.  


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Day-to-day project management ranging from project development to delivery, covering campaigning, engagement, and government and policy influencing.
  • Establishing and fostering relationships with critical external stakeholders of our project and coordination of the membership community.
  • Extending network and navigating challenging stakeholder conversations.
  • Engaging relevant policy makers and government think tanks in facilitation of policy progress.
  • Stay abreast of current and emerging developments relating to project topics. Completing rapid research on new key stakeholders and topics, supporting teams in their proactive seeking out of new opportunities.
  • Developing analytical and presentational materials in collaboration with the teams to progress the goals of each project.
  • Supporting the development of approaches to strategic communications and engagement, working in collaboration with the Senior Communications Manager of China and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate project achievements, follow up on the recommendations and lessons learned at points of evaluation. Preparing reviews of project progress, and other reports as required by funders and other stakeholders.
  • Willing to take an adaptable approach and help drive forward critical projects for the team wherever required.
  • You may have to occasionally perform other job-related duties as assigned.

About you

Experience

  • Strong work experience related to emission reduction in energy, heavy industry, preferably in steel industry.
  • Experience working with governments and the private sector, and ideally with senior/board level personnel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Able to define and prioritize key issues, make analysis with various resource and find potential solutions.
  • Strong engagement skills to develop new networks, mobilize external resource and foster relationships with key stakeholders to achieve mutual interest. Ability to handle potentially challenging conversations and find solutions to suit.
  • Proven success in developing and delivering impactful projects or campaigns within a global setting.


Technical skills

  • Knowledge of energy and industry market, policies and practice in China.
  • Familiar with global heavy industry decarbonization landscape.

Soft skills

  • Commitment to the mission of the Climate Group and enjoy working in a regional office of an international NGO.
  • Appreciation of policy, commercial and financial drivers for businesses and NGOs.
  • Experience of working with international colleagues across multiple cultures and time zones.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across a range of cultural and professional contexts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (Mandarin and English).
  • Demonstrable aptitude in project and budget management.
  • Strong organisational skills, with attention to detail and ability to effectively prioritise tasks in order to meet strict timelines and budgets.
  • Proactive and able to work independently with limited supervision to deliver tasks and achieve project objectives.
  • Team player with the ability to identify where support is needed alongside more strategic activities.

Our location

This is a full-time position, based in Climate Group’s China office in Beijing.

The role will require occasional international travel.
