We are looking for a talented Energy Systems Manager to join Climate Group’s regional office in Beijing.
The role will work closely with our global Energy teams, as well as the China team, to deliver on projects driving China’s energy transition towards a net zero future. As part of a small team, the role requires entrepreneurial ambition and creative approaches and offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious person with a passion for creating a sustainable future.
The role requires fluency in both Mandarin and English.
About the role
The role’s primary focus is to work with Climate Group’s global Energy systems teams and China team to deliver fundable projects supporting China’s energy transition towards a net zero future. The successful candidate will play a key role in day-to-day activities led by the China office as part of energy projects and initiatives.
This role sits within the China team as part of Climate Group’s portfolio of Energy systems, and reports to the China-based Senior Energy and Industry Systems Manager and with a dotted line to China Executive Director.
Working in close collaboration with Climate Group’s China team based in Beijing and the global Systems teams based in the London office, the role is responsible for supporting the overall project management and delivery of key initiatives.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Day-to-day project management ranging from project development to delivery, covering campaigning, engagement, and government and policy influencing.
- Establishing and fostering relationships with critical external stakeholders of our project and coordination of the membership community.
- Organise and facilitate high-level roundtables, interviews, and workshops to gather input and build consensus. Navigating challenging stakeholder conversations.
- Engaging relevant policy makers and government think tanks in facilitation of project progress.
- Coordinate with technical experts to develop technical guidance for renewable energy (“RE”) adoption in China context.
- Conducting rapid research on new key stakeholders and topics to support teams in proactively seeking new opportunities.
- Developing analytical and presentational materials in collaboration with the teams to progress the goals of each project.
- Supporting the development of approaches to strategic communications and engagement, working in collaboration with the Senior Communications Manager of China and other stakeholders.
- Preparing reviews of project progress, and other reports as required by funders and other stakeholders.
- Willing to take an adaptable approach and help drive forward critical projects for the team when required.
- You may have to occasionally perform and support other job-related duties as assigned.

Essential
Experience:
- Strong experience of project management, preferably in renewable energy, climate policy, or sustainable development.
- Deep understanding of China’s energy landscape, including energy usage in different scenarios, and corporate RE procurement.
- Proven track record of managing multi-stakeholder projects with governments and private sector partners, and ideally with senior/board level personnel.
- Demonstrable aptitude in project and budget management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Mandarin and English.
- Experience of working with international colleagues across multiple cultures and time zones.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of energy market policies, mechanisms and practices (e.g., green power trading, PPAs, GEC) in China.
- Knowledge of indicator systems on establishing net-zero/green power industry development zones in China.
- Familiarity with and fast learner of global initiatives and policies on climate (RE100/Sbti/GHG protocol/EU CBAM).
- Strong analytical skills to assess regulatory/policy feasibility and market barriers.
Soft Skills:

The role will require occasional international travel.
