Key Responsibilities
This position will play a key role in contributing to the implementation of the MSC’s Fisheries Standard and Fisheries Certification Process. It will also contribute to the delivery of MSC’s pre-certification initiative – the MSC Improvement Program – and the day-to-day operation of the MSC-ASC Seaweed Program.
Fisheries portfolio
- Manage a portfolio of fisheries in the MSC Certification and Improvement Programs and production units in the MSC-ASC Seaweed Certification Program; this includes reviewing assessment materials, processing variation requests, responding to queries and undertaking other administrative tasks.
- Provide oversight of the assessment process, involving technical review of assessment reports and engagement with conformity assessment bodies
- Undertake case management work on emerging fisheries-related issues
- Support the development of communication materials related to the Fisheries Standard, the MSC Improvement Program and the Seaweed Standard, including emerging regional or global fisheries and seaweed-related issues or fisheries or seaweed production units engaged in the MSC programs.
Internal and external collaboration
- Support the development, implementation and evaluation of internal policies and procedures, including those related to the day-to-day operation of certification and improvement process
2.Support IT systems and tools for effective sharing of information within and outside the MSC, including internal communication channels, information sharing portals, MSC’s Client Relationship Management (CRM) platform and the development of future systems
3.Deliver training and policy development briefings at external meetings and workshops
4.Represent the Fisheries Standard team and Science & Standards on internal working groups and at external events as required
Regional integration
1.Support outreach teams in discussions and meetings for MSC fisheries and seaweed clients in Asia, serving as a technical subject matter expert. Additionally, serve as the technical expert on regional fisheries to the Fisheries Standard team
2.Work together with senior colleagues and regional staff to facilitate information flow and communication between outreach, fisheries and seaweed clients, non-programmatic stakeholders, and the science and standards team on upcoming policy development and technical issues
3.Participate in regional activities that support the mission and vision of the MSC programs, including regional networking, workshops and other activities, as required

Required Attributes
- Technical Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Degree, or equivalent, in a sustainability or environmental discipline is essential e.g., environmental policy, sustainable development, natural resource management, marine or fisheries management, conservation science etc; a post-graduate degree in one of the same disciplines is desirable.
- Professional experience in a related field, such as fisheries science or management, marine management, international policy or standard setting, is essential.
- Experience in auditing or certification systems and processes is desirable.
- Knowledge or experience of third-party certification schemes including the MSC programs and the role of ecolabelling is desirable.
- Well-developed IT skills, including use of standard software packages (MS SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is essential.

- Evidence of an ability to successfully manage relationships with stakeholders, collaborators, and colleagues with a people-centred approach to business and work is essential.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of, and affinity for, stakeholder-engaged processes like those operated by the MSC is essential.
- Previous experience working with stakeholders and other external parties, preferably in an environmental policy development context, is desirable.
- Evidence of an ability to work with stakeholders who have different opinions, and to work with all groups to find common ground is desirable.

- Versatility to combine self-management and self-support when working alone with productive team membership.
- Excellent project planning, work planning, personal organisation and time management skills.
- Ability to deliver key outputs against demanding deadlines within a rapidly evolving organisation.
- A successful record of project development and management.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English – a second relevant language is desirable.
- Demonstrated excellence in:
written and oral communications in the English language;
in selling an idea or concept and winning support;
preparing and delivering presentations.

Circumstances: Weekend work and regular domestic and international travel may be required.
