Position Title: Forestry Project Manager, CI China
Position Type: Full time
Location: Beijing, China
Line Manager: Program Director, China
SUMMARY
The Forestry Project Manager will be working on the implementation and management of forestry-related projects especially for North China’s forest and wetland ecosystem, as well as wildlife conservation. Work with CI China and global colleagues to implement and evaluate projects, maintain partnerships with government agencies, industry, communities, research institutes and NGOs, to ensure effective and timely delivery of project outcomes. Successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on a diversified project portfolio of CI China, develop his/her own expertise in the field of conservation and make positive changes on the ground.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
o Management and implementation of forestry projects in North China. Produce technical and financial project reports.
o Engage with stakeholders in the field, including local government agencies, communities, NGOs and scientists, etc.
o Organize capacity building activities for local partners and communities.
o Budget and finance management of the assigned project, in compliance with CI policies, funding agreements, and local requirements.
o Management of technical and policy research on project-related topics such as forest conservation and restoration, wetland restoration, forestry carbon, etc., to support strategic planning and project development in China.
o Lead knowledge management for CI’s forestry related work, establish and update archives of field forestry projects.
o Work closely with CI China and global colleagues to identify and develop new projects, mobilize resources for new and existing projects.
o Support to the program team with GIS techniques.
o Other tasks assigned by the supervisor and team leader.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or above, relevant educational background in forestry or conservation, including forest conservation, forest management, botanic protection, conservation biology, wildlife management, natural resources management, ecology, etc.
- At least 4 years of working experience in forestry or conservation-related field, preferably in forest restoration projects.
- Good knowledge base of techniques and policies in forestry, ecology, conservation, environment, etc. Familiarity with forestry investigation and monitoring techniques is a plus.
- Demonstrated expertise in GIS and related skills.
- Experience in nature education and community engagement is a plus.
- Able to work independently.
- Self-motivated and innovative, able to work under pressure and actively seek solution to difficulties and challenges.
- Strong sense of responsibility, a self-starter and quick learner.
- A good team player, be supportive to other team members.
- Comfortable with multi-tasking and frequent travel to the field.
- Native Chinese speaker with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Career interest in establishing expertise related to forest/wetland protection and restoration, conservation and community development, wildlife conservation, forestry carbon.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Based in CI Beijing Office. Typical office environment. May need to work extended hours as needed.
- Frequent travel as per needs to project sites in North China incl. Hebei and Shanxi.
- Comfortable working out of doors.
- Ability to work in remote locations or under difficult working conditions.
