With more than 20 years conservation practices in China, TNC has a strong team with great talents who are working in different areas. And now we have an exceptional career opportunity for a highly motivated capable individual interested in joining the Protect team of TNC China and focusing on the Healthy River Area.
The Healthy River Director oversees all aspects of protection, science, stewardship and community relations for freshwater ecosystems and species within China. Provides scientific leadership and support for TNC’s conservation planning work and establishes overall conservation priorities in Healthy River strategy.
The Healthy River Director provides technical and program support to Healthy River strategy planning and implementation. The director serves as the principle contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations and the academic community. He/she establishes the Conservancy as a major conservation partner within area of healthy river, defines conservation priorities, leads and manages the healthy river team which supports and improves conservation efforts, and builds strategic, scientific, and technical capacity in the field. The director develops key partnerships with public & private organizations in order to identify and resolve technical issues and to widely communicate solutions and best practices, develops innovative scientific methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks to address the natural system needs, and engages local community support for local conservation efforts. He/she negotiates complex and innovative solutions with government agencies and key partners to conserve and protect natural communities and develop and implement conservation strategies.
We’re Looking for You:
• Strengthens TNC’s impacts in Healthy River conservation and management, notably freshwater ecosystem and aquatic biodiversity restoration, , and leads the implementation of the Healthy River strategies to contribute to TNC China Program’s conservation goals.
• Builds and extends collaboration with key research institutes and government agencies on freshwater ecosystem and aquatic biodiversity protection and restoration, and negotiates complex agreements with key partners at different levels.
• Leads the healthy river team and builds the team’s capacity and expertise in freshwater ecosystem conservation and restoration methods, tools and planning frameworks, and manages the project team to fulfill requirements set for outcomes and deliverables and accountability.
• Communicates internally and externally on TNC China Healthy River goals and strategies, mobilizing necessary resources to reach extensive support and successfully implement projects.
• Supports and coordinates with TNC’s lands and urban project teams on required Healthy River actions and communication to advance TNC’s conservation goals in China.
• Supervises the healthy river team staff with responsibility for performance management, training and career development.
• Frequently makes independently strategic decision based on analysis, ambiguous information and context.
What You’ll Bring:
• BA/BS degree and 5 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads and finances under deadlines.
• Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
• Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies
• Experience negotiating.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master degree in relative field.
• Rich knowledge & experience in Healthy River-related program management.
• Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
• 5-7 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
• Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.
• Ability to develop practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
• Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives or related field.
• Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
• Politically savvy.
