Communications Consultant

Job Purpose

The Communications consultant is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that support evidence-based policy advocacy and promote sustainable public health outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Support the communication efforts of programs at the national, provincial and city-level, and across multidisciplinary partners including government, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations.

2. Collaborate closely with internal program teams, communications teams, and external partners to coordinate climate, environmental health, and other program communication strategies and activities. Proactively identify key program milestones and develop communications approaches that support sustainable policy and program objectives.

3. Procure, manage, and coordinate local vendors to support program communications activities, including media engagement, graphic design, editing, content development, and the production of communication materials. Establish and maintain a centralized repository of program documentation and communications assets.

4. Provide technical support to national, provincial, and city-level partners in planning and delivering effective communication events and campaigns that advance program implementation and policy objectives.

5.  Support the design and delivery of strategic communications, social media, and media engagement training, as well as other capacity-building activities for national, provincial, and city-level staff and partners.

6. Support communications research, including audience insights, message testing, campaign monitoring, and evaluation to strengthen the effectiveness of communication strategies.

7. Develop and edit a wide range of communications products, including press releases, opinion pieces, blogs, social media content, media materials, case studies, quarterly reports, newsletters, and other program publications.

8.  Undertake additional writing, editing, and communications assignments as required.

Qualifications

Education and degree

● Master's degree or equivalent

● Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years  

Skills & abilities

● Effective negotiation and partnership skills

● Public health communication knowledge and skills and an ability to operate independently

● Ability to develop and manage a multi-faceted national program of work and budget

● Specialist knowledge and experience in climate and environmental health communication strategies

● Specialist knowledge and experience in utilizing mass media and social media channels for implementing climate and environmental health strategies. Knowledge of advocacy campaigns.

Experience

Experience required:

● Minimum of 5 years of experience in climate and environmental health programs at the national level or equivalent

● Experience in developing and implementing strategic communication programs for climate and environmental health

Experience preferred:

● Experience in negotiating partnership programs for strategic communication at the national and city level in China
