





Position Summary:
NRDC is seeking a part-time consultant on land conservation to work with the Conservation Project in our Beijing office. This position will work with Conservation Project to support the development of China’s national park system and advance nature-based climate efforts in China. The Consultant’s work will cover a broad spectrum of activities ranging from conducting technical and advisory analyses to leading a field project. The Consultant will be for an initial term of 6 months, with the potential to extend based on program needs. The Consultant must be working in the office at least 3 days per week (7 hours per day with 1-hour unpaid lunch break). Under the supervision of the managers from China Conservation Project, the Consultant shall perform the assigned tasks on land projects and also help with other work as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the team to design and implement land conservation policies and projects in alignment with biodiversity, climate mitigation, and other NRDC priorities;
- Assist with the research and analysis on laws, policies, and practices concerning national parks and NbS;
- Maintain collaborative partnerships with relevant gov agencies, scientific and research institutions, universities, local grassroots and other stakeholders;
- Help organize and attend relevant meetings, workshops and conferences;
- Develop fact sheets, blogs, and other materials on land projects in Chinese and translate documents from Chinese to English and from English to Chinese, as needed;
- Other related duties assigned by the Conservation Project.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in nature or related environmental/natural resource studies;
- Expertise or experience in protected-areas, nature-based carbon sequestration and ecosystem functioning;
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience;
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic;
- Proven technical abilities to research and recommend solutions for conservation and climate problems;
- Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders (government, research institutes, other NGOs, industry, and local communities);
- Clear communication skills with excellent English oral and written skills and high-level of technical writing proficiency; and
- Ability to work independently and as part of the team, with flexibility in taking international calls at odd hours.
