General Logistician

Our logisticians ensure our projects are equipped with everything needed to respond to emergencies. They are the behind-the-scenes professionals who make sure operations run smoothly, no matter the circumstances.

As a logistician, you will provide daily technical support to all activities in our medical facilities, including vehicle maintenance and movement planning. Your responsibilities may include construction, framing, fitting, and maintaining medical facilities, offices, and staff accommodations. You may also be tasked with setting up, managing, and maintaining water supply and hygiene/sanitation facilities. Additionally, you will oversee the electricity supply and supervise the installation and maintenance of related equipment such as generators, solar panels, and batteries. You will hire and manage technical staff and contractors, and supervise their work.

Key Responsibilities

1. Monitor the implementation of logistics, technical, and supply activities, ensuring compliance with MSF standards, protocols, and procedures.
2. In close collaboration with the HR department, participate in the recruitment, training, briefing/debriefing, and performance evaluation of logistics staff to ensure appropriate staffing and knowledge levels. Implement these activities for logistics staff under your direct supervision.
3. Serve as the technical reference for all logistics and technical issues in the mission, and provide coaching to logistics staff.
4. Ensure the installation and maintenance of functional office spaces and living accommodations, along with all required equipment.
5. Monitor and implement the technical aspects of risk reduction measures, including transport, communication, protection, identification, and preparation of the technical components of the mission’s security, evacuation, and contingency plans.
6. Ensure effective communication systems within the mission (including numbers and frequencies), enabling permanent contact between the capital, projects, bases, and HQ. Ensure all staff are properly trained in using available communication equipment (e.g., satellite phones, HF/VHF radios, computers, etc.).

Requirements

• Minimum two years of relevant experience demonstrating the ability to organize and manage multidisciplinary activities
• Any type of training, diploma, or academic qualification will be considered
• Solution-oriented mindset
• Agile, responsive, and adaptable
• NGO experience in developing countries is an asset
• Willingness to work in unstable environments
• Fluency in English and/or French
• Availability for assignments of at least 6 to 12 months
• Commitment to MSF’s Behavioral Commitment and Charter
