Job description

Overview

The main task of the Communications Manager relates to be responsible for developing the European Chamber’s Shanghai Chapter media relations and external communication strategy.

Media Relations:

·Developing and formulate with the General Manager the Chapter communications strategy in alignment with the Chamber’s overall communication strategy

·In coordination with the Chapter’s G.A. Strategy, identify the key annual Media relations and Communications issues and action plan

·Serve as a contact for the Media Relations in Shanghai

·Leading messaging, media press releases, and proving briefing notes on top line communication issues at local level and national level when required

·Develop the Shanghai Chapter’s stance on key horizontal issues, issues related to financial services or more generally issues which are receiving attention in the press under coordination with the lead in national Media and Communications function.

·Draft PPTs and speeches and briefings for high-level horizontal events where the Chamber will speak and are press facing, as well as general PPTs for the Chamber on key issues

·Develop documentation regarding the current priority issues for the Chapter and feed in Shanghai input into national priority list for provision to all Chamber spokespeople

·Develop new communication initiatives serving for advocacy

Communications:

·Forecast important developments and events for European business at local level in cooperation with the General Manager and Director of Government Affairs in Shanghai Chapter; to identify and prepare the Chamber’s role for these developments.

·Under coordination with the lead in national communications function, draft key reports or provide key input to these reports, including the Executive Summary and other industry reports and publications.

·Keep abreast of key member insight and events, and collate emerging trends and topics from senior stakeholder meetings.

·Reviewing high-level communications for accuracy and guiding/supervising a native junior or intern to handle mid- and low-level communications.

Publication and Marketing:

·Provide review and guidance on developing marketing and communications for email communications, newsletters, events and WeChat promotions, aiming to enhance Chamber visibility and member engagement.

· Lead the drafting of the Shanghai Local Position paper and provide input on horizontal and Shanghai-related issues to the national Position Paper, and other ad hoc communication projects.

· Manage the marketing and communications, and support the planning for flagship event and launch of key Chamber publications, such as the Position Paper, Business Confidence Survey (BCS), Shanghai Position Paper, etc.

Skills & experience

- Outstanding writing and editing skills (native-command of the English language)

- Attention to detail, a focus on content and a creative and journalistic flair

- 3-5 years PR/Media, Marketing, or Government Affairs relations experience

- Strong knowledge about Chinese and EU authorities and practices

- Good understanding and interest in Chinese commercial, economic and political environment

- Excellent project management skills- Outstanding verbal and written communicator

- Ability to work well in a multi-cultural office environment and coordinate well with colleagues in other locations

- Strong planning and analytical organisation skills

- Thrives working at pace and in a dynamic environment

- Responsible, professional, open-minded, and strategic thinker

- Professional appearance and demeanor

- University degree in related field (economics, political science, communications, law …)
