In follow up to our previous efforts regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we would once again like to enlist your support in our joint efforts to ensure pollution remains in the SDGs. Currently toxic pollution is addressed under Targets 3.9, 6.3, 12.4 and 14.1, under the respective goals of Health, Marine Protection and Sustainable Consumption and Production. These targets will be discussed in the upcoming meeting of the intergovernmental negotiations of the SDGs the 23-27th of March 2015. There is a chance that the language could get cut, and hence why we need your help and support! If pollution, as a whole, does not stay in the SDGs, especially the Health SDG, there will be very little funding available for work on toxic pollution for low- and middle-income countries for the next 15 years. What you can do to help: 1. Convey the attached message and fact sheet/position paper to your SDG negotiating delegates, with a cc your Ministry of Foreign Affairs or equivalent and Permanent Mission to the UN. Ask them to convey the message to their regional representative, or the G77 representative if relevant (South Africa - Mr. Lizwi Eric Nkombela; nkombelal@foreign.gov.za). Please edit the message as needed/appropriate.
