OVERVIEW
As the international comms officer, you will work with the Communications team among Greenpeace Beijing office, other East Asia offices, as well as Greenpeace International, to develop consistency in cross-countries environmental storytelling. This includes creating written and social content for Greenpeace campaign narrative, developing and implementing comms plan to present Beijing office's brand to global audience and ensuring an increase of Beijing office's campaign message exposure.
PURPOSE and SCOPE OF THE JOB
The Communications Officer is responsible for leading the development and implementation of effective multi-platform communications strategies in campaign projects under the leadership of Project Leader.
This position requires knowledge of news industry, creating and pitching compelling stories, networking with international traditional and new media, and utilizing tools and best practices to enhance Greenpeace's ability on news making and building public support.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
•Develop and execute strategic comms plans to amplify Greenpeace East Asia's campaigns, including co-creating stories with campaign teams, proactively pitching English broadcast and print media
•Develop and maintain close, productive relationships with key journalists and broadcasters in international media.
•Identify opportunities for proactive and reactive communications and coordinate with other departments, Greenpeace offices and Greenpeace International to implement project strategy and work plan
•Stay abreast of the latest trends in communications, traditional and new media, and identify opportunities to adapt Greenpeace work accordingly
Basic Qualifications:
• Academic or work background in journalism, Communications, with network of English speaking correspondents.
•A keen news sense, adherence to deadlines and efficiency, creative storyteller.
• English proficiency of native speaking and writing level with knowledge of Mandarin Chinese.
• Knowledge of socio-political environment in China.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Work experience in policy/finance/technology/energy journalism.
• Existing contacts with tier-1 international media or working experience with tier-1 international media.
• Knowledge of NGO work.
