Summary
We are looking for a talented Senior Manager, Stakeholder Engagement and Communications to join our team in China! The role will lead on stakeholder engagement and PR, and execute on core communications activities for Climate Group in China, all in direct support of our mission to accelerate climate action.
The Senior Manager, Stakeholder Engagement and Communications works directly with Climate Group’s global and China teams and China Executive Director to ensure a highly functioning, professional, team-oriented work environment.
This role is pivotal in shaping Climate Group’s profile and communications in China to support our impact and drive the development of our network of partners in the country.
The role requires fluency in both Mandarin and English.About the role
As a key member of the China team, this role requires a broad and integrated skill set, with core responsibility for leading and executing across three primary areas: stakeholder engagement, public relations (PR), and media relations, including the strategic planning and delivery of related events. It serves as a pivotal bridge between the China team and global Communications, PR, and Development teams.
Key responsibilities will include:
Strengthen International Communications Capability to Support Global Strategy Implementation
- Collaborate with the global Communications team to develop and implement the China communications and media plan, facilitating the localisation and roll-out of the global communications strategy.
- Design and execute communications initiatives that promote dialogues with local governments and businesses to drive climate action, thereby seeking to inform and influence national climate policy.
- Facilitate the organisation’s engagement with international and regional climate-related events.
- Advise the China Executive Director and team on effective communications strategy and external engagement.
Develop and Deepen Partnerships to Amplify Local Communications Impact
- Work closely with the China Executive Director and wider team, you will methodically expand and deepen Climate Group’s partnerships with Chinese government entities and business stakeholders. You will proactively identify collaborative opportunities and lead on the development and delivery of the annual partner engagement and resource mobilisation plan.
- Leverage and activate our partner network to effectively communicate our leadership and value in climate action, working in collaboration with partners to implement tangible climate initiatives.
- Acting as a key coordinator, you will proactively identify and holistically manage opportunities across external outreach, partnership development, policy influence, and internal/external collaboration. Key responsibilities include anticipating and addressing partner priorities and concerns; ensuring Climate Group's interests, perspectives, and expertise are effectively represented in relevant policies and institutional processes; and ensuring partners have a comprehensive understanding of our positions, policies, strategic priorities, and core capabilities. You will also contribute to the planning and management of high-level external engagement activities, providing support to the organisation's leadership.
- Manage day-to-day public relations, communications, and media relations with corporate partners. This includes assisting London Head Office with corporate membership relations and developing customised communications plans tailored to partner profiles.
- Lead or co-lead partner-focused events such as workshops and seminars, aimed at strengthening relationships and addressing key issues.
Drive Effective Execution of London Head Office Communications Strategy in China
- Define and champion the communications positioning around core areas such as energy, transport, and industry systems to foster in-depth engagement and cooperation with target audiences.
- Establish and maintain long-term relationships with key mainstream and influential media outlets in China.
- Oversee all media relations for Climate Group in China, encompassing both proactive outreach and reputation/issues management.
- Enhance the public and media profile of the China Executive Director through strategic planning for key channels, including media briefings and social media.
- Manage the issuance of China press releases and maintain media relationships.
- Develop and execute the China social media strategy in alignment with the global digital strategy to enhance partner engagement.
Support Internal Communications and Day-to-Day Management
- Work with London Head Office to update and maintain content for the China regional website.
- Manage PR, communications, and other relevant agencies to ensure effective project delivery.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of media communications, producing regular analysis reports.
- Fulfill other relevant duties as assigned by line manager, including necessary team management responsibilities.
- Demonstrate flexibility in working hours as required for major events, critical media engagements, or cross-time zone collaboration with London Head Office.

Essential
- Full professional fluency in English and Mandarin, with excellent writing and editing skills. Ability to represent the organisation at a senior level and provide strategic advice on stakeholder engagement.
- Proven track record in strategic communications, media relations, and campaign management. Deep experience in building and sustaining high-level relationships with corporate and government stakeholders, with a strong understanding of climate-related policy and business issues.
- Experience in leading multi-channel communications campaigns. Practical skills in crisis communications, event management, and internal communications, focused on building long-term organisational reputation.
- Proven ability to expertly manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work consistently within a fast-paced, international context.
1) Experience:
In-depth, proven experience in at least one of the following core areas:
- Business Development / Stakeholder Relations: A background in working with or within business and government, managing engagement on significant issues, and building substantial long-term relationships. Must have a strong understanding of climate issues from corporate and government perspectives.
- Media / Digital Media: A background in strategic media relations, including writing press releases, building media contacts, and enhancing organisational profile with demonstrable results.
- Public Relations: Experience running major communications campaigns within cross-functional teams over time, utilising a mix of channels to achieve specific change objectives.
2) Technical Skills:
- Excellent writing, editing, and content creation skills, with the ability to produce compelling, high-quality materials for diverse channels (e.g., news releases, social media posts, senior-level briefings) and stakeholders.
- Ability to incorporate technical detail into strong, simple messaging and headlines.
- Experience in or a demonstrable desire to master issues related to Climate Group’s sectors (e.g., climate, energy, industry).
- Understanding of international climate (or related sector) work and the roles of different stakeholders.
3) Soft Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of individuals, from colleagues to senior business and government figures.
- A proactive and cooperative team player with a mindset of continuous improvement.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and a champion of innovation, generating ideas to evolve work and processes.
- Ability to advise and guide colleagues to create effective content and strategies.
Desirable
- Experience working in a fast-paced, integrated communications environment with international dimensions, covering stakeholder relations, media, digital, and marketing.
- Experience applying design principles and tools to produce high-quality visual content.
- PR agency experience is desirable.

This is a full-time position, based in Climate Group’s China office in Beijing.
The role will require occasional international travel.
