The Methanol Institute (MI) is the global trade association for the methanol industry, representing the world’s leading methanol producers, distributors, technology innovators, shippers, and end-users. With offices in Singapore, Washington, Brussels, Beijing, and Delhi, MI is at the forefront of advancing methanol as a clean, safe, and versatile chemical building block and alternative fuel.
About the Role
We are looking for a creative, proactive, and detail-oriented Communications Intern to join our Beijing office. This is a fantastic opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in communications, sustainability, and energy to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and global organization.
As our Communications Intern, you will help manage and create content for our WeChat channel and support the Global Communications Manager (based in Europe) with content for MI’s other platforms, including LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and our weekly newsletter. You'll gain insight into global communications campaigns and industry trends while working closely with colleagues across regions.
Key Responsibilities
China Communications
- Create and schedule engaging, informative content for MI’s official WeChat account
- Support translation and localization of MI materials for Chinese audiences
- Help prepare visuals, infographics, and short videos tailored to the China market
- Assist with drafting press releases, member announcements, and event recaps
- Monitor media and policy developments related to methanol and clean energy in China
Global Communications
- Collaborate with the Global Communications Manager to adapt Chinese content for global audiences and vice versa
- Assist in preparing and editing posts for MI’s LinkedIn and X (Twitter) channels
- Contribute to MI’s weekly newsletter by gathering and summarizing key updates
- Participate in regular global comms calls and contribute ideas for content planning
- Support digital campaigns, website updates, and event communications as needed
What We’re Looking For
- Strong writing and editing skills in both Chinese and English
- Familiarity with WeChat Official Accounts and other social media platforms, including LinkedIn and X
- Interest in clean energy, climate change, or international communications
- Attention to detail, creativity, and a can-do attitude
- Good time management and ability to work independently across time zones
- Experience with basic design tools (e.g., Canva, Photoshop) is a plus
