Program Assistant
NRDC Beijing Office
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is seeking a full-time Program Assistant for our China Program. This position is based in NRDC’s Beijing Office.
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is an international nonprofit environmental organization with more than 2 million members and online supporters. Since 1970, our lawyers, scientists, and other environmental specialists have worked to protect the world's natural resources, public health, and the environment. NRDC works in countries and regions including the United States, China, India, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica, and the European Union.
NRDC’s primary role in China is to support leading domestic efforts on clean energy and environmental protection. NRDC has been working on the ground in Beijing and around the country for nearly two decades to help accelerate these efforts.
Position Summary:
The Program Assistant’s main responsibility is to provide research, editing/drafting, administrative, and coordination support to the China Program Director and to the Beijing Office as a whole.
Main Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the China Program Director, the Program Assistant is expected to:
Coordinate, consolidate, and edit inputs from project teams on specific tasks or documents, particularly concerning internal progress reporting, work planning, budget planning, and project updates;
Draft, edit, proofread, or translate memos, contracts, blogs, email communications, and other short documents in English and/or Chinese, as requested;
Work with the China communication team on developing China Program’s monthly donor newsletter and quarterly bilingual newsletter;
Assist the supervisor in developing presentations for conferences, meetings and workshops;
Conduct internet and literature research on specific environmental or energy issues, as requested;
Lead the planning and organization of office events in coordination with the Office Administrator, including, but not limited to, office brown-bags, full-staff meetings, China Advisory Council meetings, office parties, picnics and other activities;
Help manager(s) in scheduling and business expense reimbursement, as well as handling other work related invoices and expense reports when required;
Help monitor China Program’s grants and budgets;
Help cover office reception and provide backup to other administrative staff in the Beijing office when required;
Coordinate the Beijing Office’s internship program, including advertising openings, initial resume reviewing, arranging interviews, communications with applicants, and maintaining the intern database; and
Foster team work and help enhance team satisfaction with work and work environment.
Qualifications:
Strong writing and editing skills in Chinese and English;
Good understanding of and a high interest in environmental and/or clean energy issues;
Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills;
Ability to work independently, creatively, and cooperatively with multiple teams;
Strong self-learning capability;
Detail and deadline conscious, strong time management proficiency, and a responsible attitude to all aspects of work;
Two or three years of relevant work experience a plus; and
Advanced degree in a relevant field a plus.
