** About the Talk (报告内容) **
最近我们常常读到“雾霾每年致死XXX人,损失XXX元”,这些数字怎么来的?我们又如何去解读呢? 与亚洲清洁空气中心一起探讨数字背后的科学问题:
1)如何计算?流行病学研究和统计寿命价值是计算雾霾健康影响的两大基石;
2)为何计算健康损害很重要?这是科学经济决策的必由之路——雾霾造成巨大的社会经济损失,从经济定量角度来说,健康损害是大头;
3)何以揪住PM2.5不放? ——PM2.5是健康影响的祸首,因而是我们需要关注的重点,但也不能忽视其他污染物的影响,例如臭氧;

You may have seen news claiming that "Smog has caused X millions of deaths, and economic losses of X RMB". How are these numbers calculated and interpreted? Please come to join and discuss the scientific meanings behind the numbers with Clean Air Asia:

1) How are losses calculated? Epidemiological studies and statistical value of life are two cornerstones of calculating the health impacts of smog;

2) Why is it so important to calculate the health damage of smog? This is a MUST for making decisions economically and scientifically – Smog has caused serious social and economic loss. Health damage is a major problem from the economical quantitative perspective;

3) Why PM2.5? PM2.5 is the receives much more attention than other pollutants. However, impact of other pollutants cannot be ignored at all, such as ozone;

4) What is healthy level of air quality? When the Air Quality Index (AQI) indicates that the air is clean, it does not mean that the air is without any health risk. Air pollution does not have safe "threshold value", and the definition of AQI varies among different countries. The improvement on air pollution alert and emergency system could be the priority in short term.
