Community Change & Conservation

The Future Generations Graduate School, a 501(c)3 non-profit institution of higher education, is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association (www.ncahlc.org, ph: 800-621-7440).
 
The Future Generations Graduate School was founded in 2003 as the educational arm of Future Generations (china.future.org). The Future Generations Graduate School offers a two-year Master's Degree in Applied Community Change with concentrations in conservation and peacebuilding. The Graduate School also supports multi-year research initiatives in community-based approaches to conservation, child health, and peacebuilding.
 
Since 2003, the Graduate School has trained community leaders from 29 countries and graduated four classes of students.
 
This Master’s Degree builds the skills and capacity of mid-career community leaders. Instead of relocating to a campus, students remain in their own countries and continue serving their communities throughout the two-year program.

Master’s Program for Practitioners

The program blends three instructional modes: on-site field residentials for one month each term, online learning, and an applied practicum (thesis) project in each student’s community.Courses span the natural sciences, social sciences, and management. Special emphasis includes holistic community-based approaches, leveraging three-way partnerships between communities, governments, and external actors, and scaling-up local impact across regions. Core conservation courses include:
1) Fundamentals of Ecosystem-based Conservation;
2) Community-based
Natural Resource Management;
3) Sustainable Livelihoods and Incentives for Conservation;
4) Global Conservation Trends and Policies;
5) Technologies for Practitioners; and
6) Facilitation-Presentation Skills for Practitioners
 
This program allows students to remain in their own countries and to continue serving their communities without having to relocate. This program integrates:
•   Online coursework with global peers
•   First-hand experience with a wide range of international development and conservation programs through four one-month site residentials (one-month per term) in sites such as India, Kenya, Haiti, and Nepal
•   A two-year applied practicum project, executed by the student in his/her current professional and local context
 
Tuition and Fees
Program fees are $17,500 per year for students entering the program January 2013. These fees are set for the two-year duration of the program.
It is our desire to support all qualified and accepted students with a financial aid package that will put this program within reach.
 
Financial Aid Information
The Future Generations Graduate School’s Financial Aid Office (FAO) offers students financial aid counseling and assistance to help them pursue their educational goals. 
The Financial Aid process begins after you are admitted to the Master’s program.  The Financial Aid committee meets to determine the amount of scholarship aid which you are eligible to receive from the graduate school.
We are pleased to inform you that Future Generations will  offer a Chinese citizen with full scholarship for this 2 year program,  we shall welcome any qualified candidates from China to apply this program now.
