The International Association of Scientific Experts in Tourism (AIEST) is calling for contributions for its one day Young Researcher Workshop, taking place prior to its62ndConference.
AIEST is an international scientific society, with high shares of European (continental) members. It endeavours
- to foster friendly relations among its members;
- to promote scientific activity on the part of its members, in particular by developing personal contacts, providing documentation and facilitating exchange of views and experience;
- to support the activity of scientific institutes of tourism, or other centres of research and education specializing in tourism, and to develop relations between them, as well as between them and the members of the Association;
- to organize and to cooperate in conferences and other meetings and courses on tourism of a scientific nature.
The workshop as well as the conference 2012 will be hosted by the Faculty of Management Sciences at the Khon Kaen University.
Content of the workshop
This young researcher\'s workshop consists of the following elements:
- Key note presentation on how to prepare a paper for publication in a scholarly journal;
- Key note presentation on how to design research;
- Presentation (10-15 minutes) and profound discussion (at least 30 minutes) of your research endeavour (which can be in an initial state as well as very much progressed) with leading academics in the field.
Your contribution/ submission
Prepare a short paper with 5\'000 characters (including blanks, excluding references; Times New Roman 12pt, 1.5 spacing), along the following structure:
- Rationale and goals of your study (why are you pursuing this research endeavour?)
- Research questions (along which questions do you plan to align your study?)
- Literature review (very short!) (which streams of literature do you (plan to) include in your study?)
- Research design and methodology (how do you plan to find out about your research questions?)
- At the end, bring forward the three most important/ pressing questions/ challenges you have in relation to your research project (as a guideline for discussion). Those questions are NOT part of the above character limitation.
- Please note:
- A maximum of 12 contributions will be accepted; hence the approach to this workshop is competitive.
- Build a very short and comprehensive case for your study (e.g. try to balance the content with regard to the above structure in a meaningful way; \'meaningful in that sense that you provide information which is important to be able to answer your questions).
Deadline for your submission
As we try to set up a peer panel according to the type and disciplinary approach of your submission, we need your contribution by December 31, 2011. Please submit to christian.laesser@unisg.ch .
Framework and important preliminary information
The cost of the workshop including the whole conference is 1\'000 EUR for AIEST members and 1\'100 EUR for Non AIEST members (this quote needs to be confirmed and is thus tentative). This price includes the following (in a nutshell):
- Participation at the one day young researcher\'s workshop
- Full participation with AIEST conference, which not only consists of a conference in the classical sense but also of two half-day technical excursions and a number of social events.
- Overnight stay in a first class Khon Kaen hotel (tbd; where the workshop as well as the conference takes place), from Saturday, 25th August (arrival) until Thursday, 30th August (departure)
- Full board, starting with breakfast on Sunday, 26th August, ending with breakfast on Thursday, 30th August
