The Deaf Community Development Center will be offering courses in beginning-level Chinese Sign Language and American Sign Language beginning March 4th. CSL Saturdays and Sundays from 1-3 pm in Feng Tai. ASL Fridays 4-6, Wednesdays 12-2pm. We are also scouting for an off-site location that may be more convenient for many (if you happen to know of any place that will allow us some evening time, please don't hesitate to give them our contact info (below).
CSL classes are team taught by Deaf university students and a masters-level Deaf educator. Parents of Deaf children attend at no charge once our budgetary baseline has been met (12 persons) but must cover the cost of materials. The text/manual has been created by Deaf art students serving as interns at the Center. The text is simple but teaches the authentic, natural sign language with the natural grammar--not pidgin Putonghua sign that no Deaf person in China understands--with regional variations. The text is provided at no cost. Special classes for organizations which provide services for the Deaf can be arranged. Classes run for 100 minutes with a midway break, for 8 sessions--many activities, cultural awareness and much conversation practice.
CSL classes are aimed at teacher education students, community service workers, aspiring interpreters, parents, and oral Deaf, and for those merely interested in CSL as a foreign language.
ASL is offered for Deaf Chinese learners and would-be CSL interpreters.
100 RMB registration fee, non-refundable, Deaf registration Fee 80 RMB and includes Center activities fee for 1 year. Hearing course fee 400 RMB Deaf 200 RMB
Fees can be split into two equal payments. Fees go to support the Center and membership activities.
The Deaf Community Development Center operates as a sub-program of Huiling Community Services within China and is owned an operated as a registered non-profit by DeafbyDeaf: An International Deaf Development Association/ A Deaf-led, Deaf-driven, grassroots, INGO. Initial funding for the Center was provided by the very fine people of the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation and individual members of the American Deaf community.
Deaf Center also offers education support for Deaf learners of English and tutorial support for Deaf in written Chinese.

聋人社区发展中心将于3月4日起开设初级中国手语（简称CSL）与美国手语（简称ASL）课程。
中国手语授课时间： 每周六周日下午1点至3点
美国手语授课时间：每周三中午12点至下午2点， 每周五下午4点至6点
同时，我们还在寻求可以方便容纳多人，在晚间可供我们使用的场所。如果您有相关信息，请和我们联系。
中国手语是由已拿到硕士学位的聋人教育专家与聋人大学生共同授课。一旦我们实现预算底线，（每班12位学员），那么聋儿的家长们可以在只付教材费的情况下免费听课。教材手册等是由在本中心实习的聋人艺术专业的学生编制的。教材简单易懂，教授正统并普遍适用的手语与相关语法。而不是混杂普通话的手语――在中国由于地区的差异，这种手语是很难用来交流的。课文是免费提供的。我们亦可为从事聋人服务的机构开设特别课程。每节课持续100分钟，中间有一次休息，共8章内容。我们提供很多丰富多彩的文化活动，及很多对话练习的机会。
中国手语课程的对象是：教师，学生，社会工作者，有志成为手语翻译的人，聋人及其家长，或是有兴趣学习中国手语的人。
美国手语课程的对象是：中国聋人，有志成为中国手语翻译的人。
注册费用：100元人民币，不退款。 聋人注册费用：80元人民币。
（此费用包含本中心一年之内的活动费用。）
健听人学费：400元人民币 聋人学费：200元人民币
所得全部费用将被平均分为两部分：维持中心的运作及组织会员活动。
聋人社区发展中心是慧灵社会服务在中国的下属项目，作为注册的非赢利机构从属于为聋从聋组织（DeafbyDeaf）――一个由聋人创建并运作的国际聋人发展协会，是国际非政府组织（INGO）的基层机构。
本中心的初始基金由嘉道理慈善基金会和一些美国聋人社区的个人提供的。
本中心同时还向聋人英语学习者提供教育支持，并对聋人中文写作提供教学指导。
